The CleverTutors Foundation

Every lesson helps another child learn. 10% of our profits fund education and clean-water projects in communities that need them most.

Why water

No child should miss learning to fetch water

Around the world, millions of children spend hours each week collecting water instead of studying or playing. When water is unsafe, illness keeps them away from school too.

Clean, reliable water close to home gives children back that time and keeps them healthy enough to learn. That's why the CleverTutors Foundation's first campaign is a water project. We've chosen to work through The Water Project, a nonprofit that partners with local teams to build and maintain water points, and reports openly on every project it funds.

A share of every CleverTutors lesson goes towards the campaign, and families and friends can give directly too.

A protected spring for Bulupi Community 4

More than 200 people in the Bulupi community rely on the Shitakhakholo Spring. It's overcrowded, in poor repair and hard to reach. We're raising money to protect the spring and make it safe.

The challenge

Why Bulupi needs this spring

The Shitakhakholo Spring is the community's main water source, but it is overburdened. Water is diverted from the discharge pipe, so the flow is weak and collecting water takes much longer. In the rainy season, the path down to the spring turns to mud and becomes slippery and dangerous.

Children often help their families fetch water. Waiting in line and carrying heavy containers home takes time they could spend studying or playing.

“The issue of water diverted from the discharge pipe makes it have low discharge, hence time wasting.”

The solution

What the project will build

  • Spring protectionA waterproof cement structure with a discharge pipe, so water flows clean and steady.
  • Safe accessExtended concrete stairs and an improved path down the steep slope.
  • Chlorine dispenserPre-measured chlorine at the water point, with ongoing refills.
  • Hygiene trainingSessions on safe water handling, hygiene and preventing disease.
  • A water committeeLocal members trained to look after the spring for years to come.
